On 8.5.07 we had the fortunate pleasure of going to The Groove Shoppe where Dave gave us the opportunity to record the bass track for our song "Forever and a Day".

We used Dave's absolutely amazing fretless Fodera bass. We recorded the bass track with an A-Designs Reddi Tube DI, an Avalon U5, and a Millenia TD1.

During mixdown, I reamped the bass tracks through the Emperical Labs Distressor with the same settings for all three (6:1 turn attack on 5, release 4.). I then blended a little of the compressed track in with the original track.

I will post pics and recordings from this session in this thread.

Very Happy

You can listen to the song track with the different preamps on bass from the link below.

Well.. those are nice DI boxes, and nice basses. I was recently given a fretless Fender Jazz, and although I'm getting a good recorded tone via my pre-amps I'm considering getting a sansampRBI.

Hi Geoffrey,
Sansamps are great, especially to add a bit of grit to your sound with the overdrive. but if your just looking to better your tone, you might want to take a look at a Sadowsky outboard preamp... its a very smooth, natural sound that is well recieved by alot of pros, they call it a J bass sound on steroids, but it really just adds a touch of its own color to an already solid tone, its a boost only eq so when its set to zero it is really set Flat, it has a 2 band eq to boost the lows and highs (no mids, and it doesint need it) I have 2 actually and use them alot with my P bass, Sadowkys are known to be killer studio basses, you can ask Ivy as well. If you want to give one a try Ill certainly let you borrow mine. You can hear the Sadowsky tone on our tracks "Esta larga Distancia" and "En La Soledad".
